Blake Spiering - Head Coach

Blake Spiering returns for his 10th year as the Head Coach of the Monterey Peninsula College Men's Basketball Team and is entering his 19th year coaching at the collegiate level.  

Coach Blake has transferred 56 student athletes to four-year institutions and over 50% have transferred to Division I programs.

Coach Blake graduated from St. Bernard High School in Eureka, CA where he was voted M.V.P. by his peers on his basketball team that finished the season ranked 2nd in California. After high school, Coach Blake went on to get his A.A. from Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo, Ca. There he was a two year starter and earned All-Conference his sophomore season and earned the “Mr. Defense” award his sophomore year. Next he went on to Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California where he finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Management. At NDNU, he also started for two years and was an All-Conference player and earned the “Mr. Defense” award both seasons at NDNU.

After graduation, Coach Blake was hired on as assistant coach at NDNU.  Coach Blake spent one year at NDNU, then went to Sonoma State University where he spent four years as the head assistant coach.  From there, Coach Blake was hired at San Jose City College and spent four years as the head assistant coach.

Coach Blake earned his Master's Degree in Health, Physical Education, & Recreation at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA.

Coach Blake has a yellow lab named Blue.

Playing Experience

  • Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont CA:  Two-year starter; All-Conference and "Mr. Defense Award" both seasons
  • Cuesta Community College, San Luis Obispo CA:  Two-year starter; All-Conference sophomore year; voted "Mr. Defense" sophomore year; "Most Improved" award freshman year
  • St. Bernard High School, Eureka CA:  Two-year starter and two time "Mr. Defense" award; All-Conference and MVP (for the season, team finished 2nd in California in their division) Senior year

  • St. Mary's College, Moraga CA:  Masters degree in Health, Physical Education, & Recreation
  • Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont CA:  Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Management
