1. Arena Stage/ Amphitheater/ Theatre in the Round -
Developed by the Greeks in 2000 BC.
2. Thrust Stage - Developed from trestle stages in the 1600’s in England. This type of stage has become popular once again in the 1980’s as audiences want to see their actors up close.
3. Proscenium Stage - Developed in the 1660’s in France from the Jeu De Paume (Tennis Courts). The Proscenium Arch is the most prestigious theater architecture.
4. Black Box Stage - An American development in the 1950’s consisting of a room painted black.
