Dave Sobotka

Dave holds a BA in Economics from Marietta College, and an MBA in Finance from Babson College.

Mr. Sobotka has been a part-time instructor at Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) since 1987, starting at the old Fort Ord Campus. He teaches in the Business Department on the main campus and at the Marina Education Center.  He has instructed in business math, federal income taxes, financial accounting, managerial accounting, fund accounting, cost accounting, managerial economics, and personal financial planning at MPC, Hartnell College, San Jose State University, St. Marys College and Golden Gate University.

Before settling on the Monterey Peninsula in 1986, he worked in industry for such large companies as Rockwell International (Los Angeles), Polaroid Corporation (Boston), Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices (New York City), Kidde, Inc., and American Hospital Supply Corporation (Chicago).  He was a financial officer at several startups, including Intronics, Inc. (Boston) and National Medical Consultants, Inc. (Kansas City)  Dave was the Controller at Monterey-Salinas Transit from 1994 to 2008.

In addition to teaching at MPC, Dave maintains a small tax preparation practice as a CPA from his office at home.  Dave is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and carries National Association of Securities Dealers ( NASD) licenses 6 and 63.  At MST, he has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for six consecutive years from the Government Financial Officers Association.

He currently serves on the Board and Treasurer of a nationally recognized non-profit community assistance organization, Rebuilding Together, formerly known as Christmas in April.
