Having come from a foreign country as a second language learner, I know how tough it is to adapt to a new language and culture. Some of you have had to leave all or part of your family in your native land, and probably nothing in life is more difficult than that. Some of you are feeling overwhelmed by the new culture because it is not what you expected. Some of you have convinced yourselves that you will never learn English, and you are ready to give up.
We are here to help. Be sure to let me and your other instructors know if you feel like you want to drop a class, so that we can discuss what to do to help you continue with your studies.
Learning something new can be fun and exiting, but it often requires patience. You did not learn to speak your own language overnight, and you won't learn English overnight, but teachers have "many tricks up their sleeves" to help you with that endeavor, so be sure and ask. Remember, too, we have the ESL Lab in the library!
