Nicholas Tomb has been teaching American Government at the Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA since January 2005.

 

Nick is a co-founder and serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors of Global Majority, a Monterey-based non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of non-violent conflict resolution.  He has participated in approximately 50 trainings across teaching conflict resolution skills across Monterey County, and was a primary organizer of “Promoting Peace Through Dialogue,” a graduate seminar that Global Majority conducted in Amman, Jordan in June of 2007, in partnership with the United Nations University.  He also serves as the Operations Branch Coordinator, chairs the weekly Steering Committee meetings and serves as the Editor of the Global Voice, Global Majority’s quarterly newsletter.

 

His primary employment is with the Center for Stabilization and Reconstruction Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School, where he works as a Program Coordinator.  In this capacity he manages the development and delivery of educational courses focused on civil-military relations and post-conflict resolution.  He has authored several reports, articles and educational curricula, including Humanitarian Roles in Insecure Environments, “Perspectives on Provincial Reconstruction Teams” and “Civil-Military Teams:  The PRT Model in Afghanistan.”

 

He formerly served as President of the Arcata/Camoapa Sister City Project, a sister city relationship between Arcata, CA and Camoapa, Nicaragua.  He led several delegations to and from Camoapa, delivering supplies and working on water projects in the sister city.

 

Nick received a BA in Political Science from Humboldt State University, where he received the distinguished “Man of the Year” award in 1999.  He also received an MA in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, which included certificates in Conflict Resolution and Commercial Diplomacy in 2002.
