The MPC Library has rooms of various sizes for Library-related activities, including the Sam Karas Room, classrooms, study rooms, and conference rooms. Due to space limitations, donor recognition plaques or photographs are limited to 11" x 14". Rooms may not be used by groups or individuals for profit-making activities. Only the Conference (Seminar) Room and the Karas Room may be used outside of regular library operating hours. No smoking or open flames are allowed. Only college equipment may be connected to campus networks.
Sam Karas Room:
Individuals or groups affiliated with MPC may reserve the Karas Room through the Library Office if the use will be during normal hours of Library operation. Use at other times must be reserved through MPC’s Facilities Office. Individuals or groups not affiliated with MPC must reserve the room through MPC’s Facilities Office.
Light refreshments may be served in this room; organizations are required to provide their own utensils and supplies.
Maximum capacity of the Karas Room is 75.
Requests for additional equipment (such as document camera, laptop computer, etc.) should be made through Media Services.
Conference Room (Stutzman/Seminar Room):
When the conference room is not reserved for use by Library staff, it may be reserved for use by other individuals and departments. Individuals or groups affiliated with MPC may reserve the Conference Room through the MPC Facilities Office or through the Library Office if the use will be during normal hours of Library operation. Individuals or groups not affiliated with MPC may reserve the room only through the Facilities Office. Requests for additional equipment (such as document camera, projector, laptop computer, etc.) should be made through Media Services.
College Lounge:
The College Lounge, on the third floor of the LTC, is available for use by MPC staff and faculty when the library is open. (After 5 p.m. a key may be checked out using a valid library card). The room includes 3 PCs, a printer, microwave and coffeepot. The room opens onto a small deck. This room may not be reserved.
Caroline Page Garden:
Any use of this space must be scheduled through the MPC Facilities Office.
Classrooms:
Library classrooms (LTC 216, LTC 203 - 204) are “smart” rooms with computers for use by participants at sessions held in these rooms.
Scheduling:
-
The classrooms are scheduled primarily for information literacy and library instruction by MPC Library faculty.
-
When the classrooms are not scheduled for library instruction, they may be reserved by other individuals and departments as follows:
-
for up to a maximum of two hours at a time
-
one session per class per semester
-
requests for additional sessions may be made within one week of the request date.
Acceptable uses include:
-
Initial orientations for online classes
-
Staff and professional development workshops
-
Student-oriented special events (e.g. financial aid workshops)
-
One-time use by an instructor for a unique assignment or examination.
Library classrooms are scheduled at the discretion of library faculty, and may only be scheduled by Library faculty, the Library Division Office Manager or the Library Instruction Technology Specialist. Library instruction sessions should be scheduled by faculty librarians.
Staff from other departments in the LTC who have security privileges may schedule classrooms through the Library Office. Any other use outside of regular library hours of operations must be scheduled by MPC’s Facilities Office. Requests for additional equipment (such as document camera, laptop computer, etc.) should be made through Media Services.
In order to maximize the availability of the classrooms for Library instruction, it is Library policy not to schedule regular semester-length non-Library courses in Library classrooms.
Guidelines for Classroom Use:
§ The person responsible for using the classroom must check out a key with a valid MPC Library card and be responsible for the key and classroom.
§ Students must be supervised at all times when using the MPC Library classrooms.
§ Special technical or computing needs (such as running an outside program or a special configuration) must be arranged by the Electronic Resources Librarian or the Library Instructional Technology Specialist at least 72 hours in advance of the session. Requests for additional equipment (such as document camera, laptop computer, etc.) should be made through Media Services.
§ A valid library card is needed for each user to log in to the computers in the MPC Library classrooms.
§ No food is permitted in the classrooms. Any events that include food must be held elsewhere. Water in a spill-proof container is the only beverage allowed in the MPC Library.
