Let’s Talk about Teaching and Student Learning
Wednesday November 4, 12-1pm in LTC 216
AND
Tuesday November 10, 12-1 pm in the Sam Karas Room
Both will be the same program featuring Mila MacBain talking about BSI versus ESL errors in student writing.
Learn how to be an ESL detective--how to distinguish between the most common basic skill and ESL errors; what kinds of error stem from primary language interference; how to recognize common student compensation strategies and non-native organization schemes students routinely employ.
This will be followed by a hands-on demonstration of two or three communicative activities I have successfully used with both native and non-native English speakers. These techniques are designed to teach academic content to non-native speakers and can be applied to almost any discipline. Warning: participants will have to get up and out of their seats!
Please join us. These sessions have all been enlightening and inspiring.
