Partnering for Academic SuccesS

Spring 2012

Come Join Us!

Limited space is available- make sure to enroll early!

The PASS program is offering an English learning community this Spring. When you sign up for one class, you are automatically enrolled in all classes and must be ready to take all three classes during the semester. Classes meet on a Tuesday/Thursday schedule, which allows for flexibility for work and/or lab hours on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.

PASS with an English focus:

  • English 301 (Introduction to Academic Writing) with Jamie Gerard (TTH 8am-10am)- Section 4398
  • English 302 (Introduction to Academic Reading) with Andrea Ibessaine (TTH 10am-12pm)- Section 4402
  • PERS 200 (Orientation to College) with our PASS counselor, Jacque Evans (Thursday 1pm-2pm)- Section 4761

Mission Statement

Increasing student success through the partnership of students, faculty, and counseling.

Our Vision

To help our students gain the necessary academic and personal skills to complete their college goals of either transferring to a university, receiving an AA/AS, or earning a Certificate.

What is a Learning Community?

A group of students who take the same classes. The classes are supported with an academic counselor, with everyone (instructors, counselor, and students) working together for student success.

What are the requirements for the Spring 2011 PASS?
  • You must be eligible for the classes within the community ENGL 301 (Introduction to Academic Writing) AND ENGL 302 (Introduction to Academic Reading)
  • You must be committed to taking all classes within the learning community
What will I get out of it?
  • A community of students who will be supporting each other in class and outside of class
  • Some class assignments will be connected between PASS courses, allowing you greater opportunities for learning concepts
  • Instructors that will meet outside of class time on your behalf to discuss helping you to succeed in all classes
  • Access to a counselor who can help you throughout the semester
How do I enroll?
  1. As long as you meet the placement requirements, students may enroll any time during registration.
  2. You will be contacted by Jacque Evans, the PASS Counselor, who will ask you to complete our application online or a hard-copy application.
  3. She will meet with you to discuss your semester plans.
