DLI/MPC PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
To earn the associate degree in foreign language, eligible DLI students must complete the following requirements:
Competency Requirements
- Reading
- Writing
- Mathematics
- Information Competency (Begins fall, 2006)
Note: Reading, writing, and mathematics competencies may be satisfied by completing a college level course in English reading and writing and beginning algebra or satisfactory scores on CLEP.
Information Competency may be satisfied by completing a college level course, a satisfactory score on the MPC Information Competency Proficiency Exam, or credit by examination for LIBR 50.
Major
Completion of 19 units of foreign language with at least a “C” average as outlined in the articulation agreement between the DLI and MPC.
General Education
Completion of 21 units of general education courses.
Courses taken at DLI satisfy GE-Area C: Humanities and GE-Area D: Social Science. GE areas needed to complete include Area A: Communication Skills (6 units); Area B: Natural Science with a Lab (3-4 units); GE-Area E: Life Long Learning-E1 Wellness, E2 Introduction to Careers (3 units); and Area F: Intercultural Studies (3 units)
Units/Grade Point Average
Completion of a minimum of sixty (60) degree-applicable units with a 2.00 (“C”) grade point average. Only courses numbered 1-299 may apply toward the Associate Degree beginning Fall 1995. When a student has completed more than the required sixty units, those sixty units of courses in which the student has earned the highest grades will be taken into account in computing his/her graduation grade point average.
Residence Requirement
Completion of twelve (12) units at Monterey Peninsula College.
Units taken through the Distance Learning Program apply to the residence requirement.
