Nursing Department
Program of Study
The program of study at the Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing includes both general education and nursing to provide the scope of knowledge required to assure the delivery of quality nursing care. The curriculum allows students an opportunity to apply nursing skills in a variety of health care settings. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Graduates are awarded the Associate of Science degree with a nursing major. The nursing program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Admission Requirements
Required course work for entry into the program includes high school graduation or the equivalent; meeting the MPC mathematics and reading proficiency requirements; college anatomy, physiology, microbiology, developmental psychology, pharmacology, and English. All coursework must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Applicants must achieve a satisfactory success index score and pre-entrance readiness score on the ATI TEAS exam in order to be qualified for admission. Due to space limitations, completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee admission to the program. The success index score is calculated using a combination of overall GPA, core science GPA, college English GPA, and reduced for repetition of core science courses, due to unsuccessful attempts, as recommended by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. TEAS test are administered at the School of Nursing to accepted applicants.
