PASS Learning Community

The PASS program will have TWO learning communities this Fall. 

PASS with a Math focus:

  • MATH 351 (Pre-Algebra) with Andy Washburn (Daily 9am-10am)
  • Structured learning support with Marilyn Townsend from the Academic Support Center (Will be announced)
  • PERS 200 (Orientation to College) with our PASS counselor (Monday 12-1pm)

PASS with an English focus:

  • English 301 (Academic Writing) with Jamie Gerard (TTH 10am-12pm)
  • English 302 (Academic Reading) with Susan Joplin (MWF 9:30am-10:50am)
  • PERS 200 (Orientation to College) with our PASS counselor (Thursday 12:30pm-1:30pm)

Our Vision
 
To help our students gain the necessary academic and personal skills to complete their college goals of either transferring to a university, receiving an AA/AS, or earning a Certificate
 
What is a Learning Community?
 
A group of students who take the same classes.  The classes are supported with an academic counselor, with everyone (instructors, counselor, and students) working together for student success
 
What are the requirements for the Fall 2010 PASS?
  • You must be eligible for the classes within the community ENGL 301 (Academic Writing) AND ENGL 302 (Academic Reading) OR MATH 351 (Pre-Algebra)
  • You must be committed to taking all classes within the learning community
What will I get out of it?
  • A community of students who will be supporting each other in class and outside of class
  • Some class assignments will be connected between PASS courses, allowing you greater opportunities for learning concepts
  • Instructors that will meet outside of class time on your behalf to discuss helping you to succeed in all classes
  • Access to a counselor who can help you throughout the semester
How do I enroll?
  1. Complete an application online or turn in a hard-copy application to Marilyn Townsend in the Library at the Academic Support Center- LTC 124
  2. You will be contacted for a meeting with Kim Shirley, the PASS Coordinator or Alex Lopez, our PASS Counselor
  3. After meeting with Kim or Alex, you will be provided with enrollment codes for the PASS classes
