BOMB THREAT
1. If you observe a suspicious or potential bomb on campus, DO NOT HANDLE THE OBJECT. Clear the area and immediately call College Security. Refer to steps 6 through 12 below for further instruction.
2. Any person receiving a phone call that a bomb threat or explosive device has been placed on campus is to ask the caller:
- When is the bomb going to explode?
- Where is the bomb located?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What does it look like?
- Why did you place the bomb?
- What is your name?
WRITE DOWN THE CALLER’S ANSWERS
3. Keep talking to the caller as long as possible and record the following:
- Time of call.
- Age and sex of caller.
- Speech pattern, accent.
- Emotional state of caller.
- Background noises.
4. Immediately notify College Security and give them the information outlined above.
5. Iif the bomb threat is received by mail, do not further handle the letter, envelope or package. Vacate the area at once, report to your supervisor, and call College Security.
6. The College Security Officers will secure the area. Employees are requested to make a cursory inspection of their area for unfamiliar objects and report the location to the Police or College Security Officers.
7. If an evacuation is warranted, College Security Officers will activate the building Fire alarm or contact each classroom instructor and office occupant.
8. Evacuate the building by quickly walking to the nearest exit and direct others to do the same. If on the second floor level, direct people with disabilities to elevators and wait for further direction by college security personnel. Assist those who need help in exiting the building on ground level floors.
9. Once outside, move to a clear area at least 300 feet away from the affected building. Keep walkways clear for emergency vehicles.
10. To the best of your ability, without re-entering the building, assist College Security or college staff in their attempt to determine that everyone has evacuated safely.
11. An Incident Command Center will be set up near the emergency site. Keep clear of the command center unless you have important information to report.
DO NOT RETURN TO A BUILDING UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO OR UNTIL THE ‘ALL CLEAR’ HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED.
