MPC Graduation Requirements - University Studies

Graduation Requirements
Associate Degree in University Studies - with  Emphasis

The Associate degree is awarded upon satisfaction of the following:

Competency Requirements

  • Reading

Completion with a grade of “C” or better of  English 1A (or by a verified equivalent course successfully completed at another college) or achievement of a minimum score of 3 on the Advanced Placement in English Composition.

  • Writing

Completion with a grade of “C” or better of  English 1A (or by a verified equivalent course successfully completed at another college) or achievement of a minimum score of 3 on the Advanced Placement in English Composition.

NOTE:  A college course or Advanced Placement  scores satisfying this requirement can also be applied to the English Composition Requirement of the General Education Requirement.

  • Mathematics

Completion with a grade of “C” or better of  any math course which has as its prerequisite satisfactory completion of intermediate algebra or achievement of a minimum score of 3 on the Advanced Placement Math AB or BC.

NOTE:  A college course or Advanced Placement  score  satisfying this requirement satisfies the Mathematics Requirement  of the General Education Requirement.

  • Major

Completion of 18 units in the major area satisfies the major requirement for the University Studies-With Emphasis.

  • General Education
    Completion of the CSU General Education Pattern or the IGETC Pattern.
  • Units/Grade Point Average

Completion of a minimum of sixty (60) transferable units with a 2.00 (“C”) grade point average.

  • Residence Requirement

Completion of  twelve (12) units at Monterey Peninsula College.

Upon completion (or in anticipation of completion) of these requirements, students wishing to receive an Associate Degree must complete and file a petition form.  Forms are available in the Admissions and Records Office.
