How may I find out the status of my financial aid file? |
MPC Student Financial Services is unable to disclose personal information about your file over the phone due to the Federal Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA). Students may request information about his/her file in-person or by using their MPC e-mail account. General questions are always welcomed.

What types of financial aid do you offer? |

Eligibility Requirements |
What are the eligibility requirements for financial aid? |
A student must:
*Be accepted for admission *Be enrolled in a program leading to a degree or certificate *Be in good academic standing *For most programs, demonstrate financial need *Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen *Certify compliance with Selective Service Registration requirements *Not be in default on any loan or owe a refund on any grant made under any Title IV program *Have a social security number *Have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent

When to Apply |
When should I apply for financial aid? |
You should apply for aid between January 1 and March 2 of every year to be considered for maximum aid for the upcoming academic year. You may also apply between January 1 and June 1 of the school year to be considered for a Pell Grant and/or a student loan. Even if you miss these deadlines, you should still apply. For more information on deadlines.

Pell Grant vs Cal Grant |
What is the difference between a Pell Grant and a Cal Grant? |
The Pell Grant is federal aid and the Cal Grant is state aid. Students who would like to be eligible for both grants need to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and submit the CalGrant GPA Verification form no later than March 2nd of every year. Ability To Benefit Test (ATB) |
Why must I take the Ability To Benefit (ATB) Test and how can I take the test? |
To be eligible for aid, you must have a high school diploma, a GED or its equivalent, complete 6 units in your program of study or take an Ability to Benefit Test. To take the test, please contact MPC College Readiness at 646-4246.

Tracking Letter |
I received a Tracking Letter; what does it mean? |
A tracking letter is a form of Student Financial Services notifying students of missing documentation in their files. It is the students responsability to update our office with a current address where a tracking letter will be sent. Please read the letter carefully and submit requested documents to Student Financial Services as soon as possible. All forms are available online.

I have received an Award Letter; what do I do now? |
Complete the Financial Aid Online Orientation and submit the signed Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy form. Please make sure to have activated your MPC Student Account on an MPC computer prior to completing your Financial Aid Orientation.

Drop-Dead Date |
What does "Drop-Dead Date" (DDD)mean, and when is it? |
The Drop-Dead Date is the last day during the semester in which a student may add or drop a course without having his/her financial aid funds penalized. Dropping courses after the DDD may place a student on Financial Aid Probation or Financial Aid Dismissal.
Please check your award letter and website for these dates.

Probation Contract |
What does it mean to be on Probation and what should I do with it? |
Being on probation means you have not met the requirements of the Student Financial Services Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy, and will need to meet with your academic counselor to go over this policy and complete a Probation Contract.

Dismissal Letter |
I received a Dismissal Letter in the mail. What does this mean and what should I do now? |
This means that you did not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements for at least two consecutive semesters and you will not receive financial aid. If there is a special circumstance related to your dismissal contact your counselor, and write a letter of appeal to the Director of Student Financial Services explaining a special circumstances. An appeal meeting will be set up for the student and academic counselor. It is recommend that the student contact his/her academic counselor to discuss the special circumstance related to dismissal before the appeals meeting.

Special Circumstances |
What are Special Circumstances? |
Special Circumstances are one time unique events, such as a death in the family, illness, or some extraordinary event leading the student to either not complete all of cources or receiving a Grade Point Average (GPA) below a 2.0. It is required to submit supporting documentation for a special circumstance as stated by the dismissal committee.
Not liking an instructor or not understanding a course does not suffice as a Special Circumstance.

When will my check be ready? |
Students will receive a check on the dates stated on his/her Award Letter.

Where do I get my check? |
Financial Aid Disbursements are available in the Fiscal Services , located in the Administration Building.
Scholarship checks are mailed to you after we receive the money and verify you still meet scholarship requirements.

Money Owed to MPC |
What happens if I owe money to MPC? |
If a student owes money to MPC, the student will not be allowed to register at MPC until the money is repaid. If the student has a financial aid disbursement that has not been received, the money owed to MPC will automatically be deducted from the student's financial aid disbursement.

What is the MPC scholarship booklet, and when is it available?
|
The online booklet has information about MPC scholarships, and is available on the Student Financial Services Home Page the second week in February. |

Scholarship Recipients |
How will I know if I received a scholarship? |
Outside scholarship recipients will be notified by mail between June and December. MPC scholarship recipients will be announced at the scholarship awards ceremony, which takes place the third week in May. All finalists will be invited to the ceremony.

Scholarship Money |
How soon will I receive my money? Can I receive it before school begins? |
After the money is received by MPC from the donor, we verify scholarship requirements. It takes five business days to disburse the funds. A student may receive his/her scholarship before class starts only if the donor as agreed. Most scholarship checks are mailed out to students after the first week of school.
