Maximum Time Frame
- The educational goal is completed when the student has reached the maximum number of units required to obtain a degree or certificate. The maximum units may not exceed 150% of the published unit requirement for the program as described in the college catalog.
- Transfer units that are being accepted by MPC towards completion of study or to establish grade level in college will be counted in the maximum number of units a student needs to complete their program of study.
- All grades are included when computing the 150% of units attempted including courses at MPC in which a grade of F, W, NC, I, IP, RD. Examples of the number of units allotted are calculated below.
example: Associate Degree = 60 units Nursing Program = 70 units
60 – 90 units, must file an Excessive units Petition 72-108 units, must file an Excessive Units Petition
(60 x 150% = 90) (70 x 150% = 108)
90.5 or more units, not eligible for Financial Aid 108.5 or more units, not eligible for Financial Aid

- In addition the chart above establishes a minimum number of units a student must complete each semester, regardless of award status or award amount received.
- Once a student reaches 60 units, the student must file an Excessive Units Form. The information is evaluated and the student receives a letter stating the remaining units that may be funded by financial aid.
- Those students who need time beyond the 150% limit may file an Excessive Units Appeal form for additional units. The approval of these units is final. No other appeal request will be accepted.
