LIBR 60: Family Research Studies: Genealogy IIntroduction to family historical research methods and sources (1850-2000) including basic Internet and library sources as well as research methodologies for locating students' families. LIBR 61: Family Research Studies: Genealogy IIThis course covers the research methods, Internet and library sources, for locating families using census, tax, probate, land, property, newspapers, biographies, and military records between 1790 and 1850. LIBR 62: Family Research Studies: Genealogy IIILearn advanced research methods for the Internet and traditional repositories involving foreign records and resources. This course also addresses methodologies for extending family lines beyond the U.S., and for preparing genealogical reports on research results. LIBR 63: Family Research Studies: Genealogy IVStudents will develop experience and skills in preparing genealogical client reports or publish a family history in electronic format in Word, WordPerfect, on a CD-ROM, DVD, Video, Audio, or a Website, or using an on-line publishing system. One project will serve as a final project. LIBR 72: Effective Use of the InternetThe course provides instruction and practice in methods to optimize students’ use of Internet resources. Topics for lessons and hands-on exercises include file types, effective searching, new search tools and effective evaluation of search results. LIBR 80: Internet LiteracyLessons and hands-on exercises cover Internet history, access and ethical issues, email, file types & downloads, chat and basic web page creation. Web searching instruction and practice exercises include searching the “hidden” or “invisible” Web and how to evaluate search results. |
