Introduction to Information Competency & Literacy

LIBR 50 takes approximately 51 hours of work and earns 1 unit of credit.

  • Each unit consists of explanatory materials to assist you in completing that unit.  An exercise accompanies each unit.
  • There may also be supplementary materials for you to read that the Reference Librarian can explain to you.

Why is Information Competency & Literacy important?

Information Competency/Literacy "forms the basis for lifelong learning. ... It enables users to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed, ... assume greater control over their learning... [and] develop a metacognitive approach to learning, making them conscious of the explicit actions required for gathering, analyzing, and using information."
