Effective Use of the Internet

LIBR 72 is a 1 unit course focused on:

1. Effective Internet searching using various Internet search tools.
2. Critical evaluation of search results.

By the completion of this course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the ability to locate information using at least five different search engines, directories and metasearch tools to solve information needs.
2. Formulate a variety of search strategies, which will locate information relevant to the question. Retrieve information using the strategies and evaluate it using a standard set of criteria.
3. Understand different file formats and their uses on the Internet.
4. Identify information sources for working in a multicultural community.
5. Locate information in a specific subject area with different search tools. 
6. Locate information on the "hidden" Web.
