The Infrastructure Project consists of multiple projects including the construction of new under and above ground site utilities throughout the entire campus.  The Infrastructure Project consists of Phase I, Phase II and Phase III segments.  The work consists primarily of demolition; general site work; parking lot improvements; irrigation and landscaping; structural transformer and switchgear support pads; plumbing; storm water, sewer and gas systems; fire service; electrical utilities; telecommunications; campus wide emergency alarm and additions to the disaster notification system.  As of summer 2009, remaining site work (lighting, parking lots, sidewalks) will be ongoing for the next few years.

Parking Lot Improvement Projects:

Tree Replacement Plan - In summer 2008, as work on the parking lots continued, MPC began replacing trees at a ratio of 3 to 1.  The Tree Replacement Plan, prepared by Barry Coate, a certified arborist and planner, provides for more than 160 trees, consisting of 10 different species, to be planted. The Plan calls for the planting of 3 trees for every tree removed as a result of construction. Within various projects including this one, MPC is introducing a new green landscaping element called bio-swales.  Consisting of drainage courses with gradual sloping sides, these bio-swales are planted with vegetation designed to maximize the runoff time for water.  This process aids in the removal of silt and pollution, effectively treating water runoff before it reaches the watershed or storm sewers and the Monterey Bay.
