 Step 2: Financial Aid

Monterey Peninsula College has both federal and state financial aid available for students. There are three separate applications for aid, all are free, take little time to complete:

1.      Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGFW) is a California State Aid program. The application is available on the web at www.CCCapply.org or in the Class Schedule.  The paper forms can be submitted Student Financial Services located in the Student Center.  Students qualifying for a Fee Waiver will not pay the Enrollment Fee.  BOGFW is not affected by academic progress.

Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver eligibility:

ü       Be a California residence

ü       Be Accepted for Admission

ü       Have  a financial need

Note that the BOG Fee Waiver is not a cash award and does not cover other educational expenses.

2.      To apply for Federal Aid,  complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. We recommend that everyone who attends MPC complete the FAFSA.  The MPC school code is 001242.

To be eligible for federal assistance you must:

ü       Be accepted for admission.

ü       Be enrolled in an eligible program leading to a degree or certificate.

ü       Be in good academic standing.

ü       Demonstrate financial need.

ü       Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

ü       Have earned a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED), or must pass an approved Ability to Benefit test (available at the MPC Testing Center).

To estimate the amount of federal aid for which you might
be qualified, go to: http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov/. Note
it is not the FAFSA application it is a financial aid estimator
                   program.

3.      To apply for a Stafford Loan you must first complete a FAFSA and then attend an Entrance Workshop for Stafford Loans.  The application for the loan program is available at the entrance workshop.
