Transfer From Another College

WELCOME TO MPC/NEW  TRANSFER STUDENT

 You are a new transfer student if you are new to Monterey Peninsula College and attended another college.  If you plan to earn a certificate, degree, transfer, or have not decided on a goal you are classified as a matriculating student.  As a matriculating student you need to complete the Monterey Peninsula College STEP program.

Note:  Students with an associate or higher degree who do not plan to receive a degree or certificate do not complete the STEP Program.

 STEP ONE: Complete ADMISSION

  • Submit the Application of Admission to the Admissions and Records Office.
  • Request to have all college and high school transcripts mailed to the Admissions and Records Office at Monterey Peninsula College. You may bring unofficial copies to be used ONLY for assessment and advisement.   For more information, go to Admissions and Records.

 STEP TWO: Contact Financial Aid.

 STEP THREE:  Complete reading, writing and math ASSESSMENT

ENGLISH

  • If you have not completed an English assessment from another California community college, contact the Testing Center to make an appointment for the English assessment.  The Testing Center is located in Building HU 207. 

  • If you have completed assessment at another California community college, and have not completed a reading or writing course, provide the Testing Center with your scores from the other college.

  • If you have completed a college level reading or writing course, provide the Testing Center with copies of your college transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form.  This form is found in the Schedule of Classes or on our website.

  • If you are eligible to receive English credit through completion of the CLEP (50 percentile) or Advanced Placement (score of 3 or higher) provide the Admissions and Records Office with official copies of your test scores.  Provide the Testing Center with unofficial copies of your test scores and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics assessment is handled on an individual basis.

  • If you have not completed a beginning algebra or higher course in high school or college, it is recommended that you contact the Testing Center to arrange for the Informed Mathematics Decision assessment

  • If you have completed a beginning algebra or higher course with a grade of “C” or better in high school or college, complete the Prerequisite Verification Form and submit it and a copy of your transcript to the Testing Center or Counseling Office.  This form is found in the Schedule of Classes or on our website.

  • If you are eligible to receive math credit through completion of the CLEP (50 percentile) or Advanced Placement Math AB or BC (score of 3 or higher) test,  provide the Admissions and Records Office with official copies of test scores.  Provide the Testing Center with unofficial copies of your test scores and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form.

STEP THREE: Complete ORIENTATION

  • If you completed orientation at another college, file the Orientation Verification Form with the Counseling Department.  You may get this form from the Counseling Department.
  • If you did not complete an orientation at another college, contact the Counseling Department (831-646-4020) to make an appointment with the Matriculation Assistant Coordinator for an orientation session after you have completed assessment or complete orientation through our website.  STEP 4.  Complete ADVISEMENT

  • Complete an Education Plan.  Call the Counseling Department to make an appointment with a counselor to complete the plan or complete the Education Plan found in the Schedule of Classes or on our website and submit it to the Counseling Department.  If you wish to complete the Education Plan using the web site form, you are encouraged to review the information found on the website. http://www.mpcfaculty.net/counseling/advisement/

 STEP 5. Complete REGISTRATION

  • Upon completion of assessment, orientation, and advisement the Counseling Department will issue the Authorization to Register Form.
  • Submit this form to the Admissions and Records Office.
