Exemption from Assessment
Students may be exempt from assessment if they meet one of the exemption criteria listed below:
- Are taking courses for personal interest that do not require an English or math course as a prerequisite.
- Are taking courses for advancement in current job/career (update job skills) that do not require an English or math course as a prerequisite.
- Are taking courses to maintain a certificate or license that do not require an English or math course as a prerequisite.
- Are concurrently enrolled at another college, or have assessed at another Community College in California, and/or are taking courses that do not require an English or math course as a prerequisite.
Exemption from English Assessment
Students may be exempt from taking the English Assessment if they meet one of the exemption criteria listed below:
- If you have completed a college level reading or writing course, provide the Counseling Office with copies of your college transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form. This form is also found in the Schedule of Classes.
- If you have completed English assessment at another California Community College, and have not completed a reading or writing course, provide the Counseling Office with your scores from the other college.
- If you are eligible to receive English credit through completion of the CLEP (50th percentile) or Advanced Placement exam or English Literature test (score of 3 or higher). Please provide Admissions and Records Office with official copies of your test scores. Provide the Counseling Office with unofficial copies of your test scores and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form.
Exemption from Math Assessment
Students may be exempt from taking the Math Assessment if they meet one of the exemption criteria listed below:
- Completed the College Board Advanced Placement Mathematics Test (AB or BC) with a score of 3, 4, or 5.
- Equivalent prerequisite math course from another college, with a gade of "C", or better (For 4-year, out-of-state or private colleges, a catalog course description is required.) Please turn in all documents and the Prerequisite Verification Form to the Counseling Center.
- Qualifying raw score report from an MDTP math test taken at another college. Provide score to the Counseling Office.
- Received math credit through completion of the CLEP (50th percentile)
- Completed a college course in math.
NOTE:
- College transcripts or test score reports are used as documents that show you have met the requirements listed above.
- Submit these documents, together with a completed Prerequisite Verification Form, to the Counseling Department, located in the Student Services Building.
- Prerequisite Verification Forms can be found in the Schedules of Classes, at the Counseling Department, or on this website.
