Step 3: Assessment

Monterey Peninsula College offers a variety of assessments to assist you in choosing the appropriate classes.

These include:

English & Math Assessment-CTEP/MDTP

English Only Assessment-CTEP

Math Only Assessment-MDTP

ENSL Assessment-CELSA

Reason for Assessments:

Ø       Assessment of your reading, writing, and math skills provides you with information to help you choose classes that fit your ability - classes in which you will be successful, and to satisfy possible prerequisites. If you are a first-time-in-any-college student with a goal of an Associate Degree, transfer, or basic English/reading/math skills, as reported on your application, it is reccommened that you be assessed in both English, Math or English as a Second Language and complete an orientation and advising before registering for classes.

Ø       If you are not exempt from assessment, you will need to complete the MPC English Assessment, English as a Second Language Assessment and the Math Assessment before you can register for an English, ENSL or math course that have a prerequisite of English, ENSL or Math.

Ø       Accommodations: Student with disabilities who need special accommodations for any parts of the assessment or the STEP Program should contact Supportive Services to make arrangements.  Telephone 831-646-4070.  TDD users should telephone 831-646-4068.

Ø If English is not your native language, you are strongly advised to take one of the English as a Second Language Assessments.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Students are required to make an appointment for any assessments.
  • An application for Admission MUST be filed with the Admissions and Records Office and you MUST have an MPC student Id # prior to making an appointment for any assessment or ABT test.
