New California law limits the length of time a person can be on public assistance.
Monterey Peninsula College offers eligible CalWORKs students academic, financial and personal support as they pursue their education and work toward greater economic security and personal fulfillment.
MPC has a long history of successful CalWORKs students, some earning Associate degrees, others earning certificates in a vocational training program. MPC have many, short-term Certificate of Completion courses and other "fast tract" programs to better serve with time-sensitive educational goals. As a student at MPC, you will be provided with resources to support the different needs you may have to further encourage your educational success.
The goal of the MPC CalWORKs staff is to be accessable to you while you pursue your opportunities in your personal and professional lives. The staff also have workshops and programs that will meet the diverse needs of our students.

- Virtually inexpensive. Your tuition is waived for eligible CalWORKs participant. You only pay a $30.00 fee.

- Practical. Training is designed for high demand occupational areas and you learn how to find that new job.
- Flexible. You can always come back to continue your training while you work and build your skills, and prepare for a better job.
- You think you can’t afford it? You only pay $30.00 for Building, Health, and student ID fee every semester. You do not pay tuition. You can also get assistance with the purchasing of books and supplies.
Do you have children? Monterey Peninsula College has a quality preschool instructional program for children from 2-6 years of age who are toilet trained and in good health. MPC also have Toddler Program 18-36 months of age. At least one parent must be a student taking a minimum of six units a day and pursuing a vocational or educational goal. Tuition is on a sliding scale, based on income and family size. Parents of children enrolled in the Center must take a parent education class for college credit and participate in the Center for one to three hours a week.
