Workability III

The Workability III program is offered through Supportive Services and Instruction to assist Department of Rehabilitation clients to obtain and maintain employment. The program is designed specifically for students with disabilities who require individualized assistance to identify and implement Career Technical Education and employment goals. Activities include career assessments and job readiness skills as well as job development and job retention skills.

Vocational Assessment- upon meeting with the student WAIII provides access to career exploration and vocational assessment tools.  These assessments assist the intake person as well as the student in understanding his/her strengths and weaknesses in relation to their vocational goal.

Job Readiness – Students are given the opportunity to participate either in a Job Club or meet individually with the WAIII instructor/Job Placement Specialist.  During this time the focus is on identifying abilities, interests and matching those to the job market.  Additionally time is spent working on the “soft skills” so often needed to be successful in the job search.

Job Development/Retention – The WAIII Job Placement Specialist will work the student to develop job networking strategies and job search skills.  These activities may include; preparing cover letters, tailoring resumes, enhancing interview skills, cold-calling and networking within the community.  The Job Placement Specialist will promote students to employers and present information regarding training funds and tax credits.  Furthermore job retention skills will be presented and reviewed so that successful retention is maximized.
