Women Supporting Women at Monterey Peninsula College

Women Supporting Women was founded at MPC in the spring of 1998 to raise funds to provide emergency financial assistance to women who were at risk for dropping out of college.  In the past 9 years, 444 individuals and organizations have become members.  Many members have donated to the fund every year—a tremendous commitment to the education of women.

The fund has grown to an endowment of more than $100,000, and hundreds of women have received assistance.  This assistance has included auto insurance, tires, textbooks and art supplies,  uniforms, a night in a hotel for a homeless student, expensive prescriptions, and emergency medical treatment.  All payments are made directly to the providers of services.  No money is directly given to students.
