The Great Books Club (Selections from Mark Twain)

All Great Books Lovers!

Our topic for lively conversation will be a variety of selected short pieces by Mark Twain.  There are dozens of possibilities, but for starters I would recommend "The Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg," "Literary Offences of Fennimore Cooper," "Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," and "The Californian's Story."  I would also recommend reading any of the sketches from Roughing It or Life on the Mississippi.  If you have any favorites or suggestions, please let me know and I'll pass them along to the group.

Twain's complete works are available on the Project Gutenberg site:
We will make plans for more titles at our Oct. 16 meeting - let me know if you have any ideas; at our Oct. 2 meeting we talked about James Baldwin as one suggestion, and quite a few other options (which I did not, unfortunately, keep track of ;-(  An earlier suggestion was to look at short stories from Latin America and/or No Exit.
I look forward to seeing you and more conversation about "great books" on Tuesday - email me with any questions, suggestions or ideas.  If I come across more "not-to-be-missed" Twain pieces, I'll send another email (or if you share more Twain favorites for me to pass along).
