Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Update

March 11, 2020

MPC continues to actively monitor the situation regarding the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are implementing plans that we believe are in the best interests of our students, faculty, and staff.

We recognize that any disruption to classes can be difficult and we are being proactive in order to continue to provide high-quality instruction and student support. 

Following guidance from the California Department of Public Health and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, we are taking the measures listed below to ensure that students currently enrolled in classes will continue to be able to fulfill their academic requirements. 

Instruction and Instructional Support

  • Beginning immediately, and until further notice, MPC is recommending that face-to-face classes transition to online instruction if possible. Students will receive communication from their instructors if and when their course is transitioned online, including where to access class materials. This communication will come via email to your MPC student email.

  • Activity courses, such as athletics, physical fitness, laboratory science, rehearsal, performance, and other hands-on studio and lab classes may continue to meet as scheduled unless your instructor provides other directions. 

  • The MPC Library, English Study Skills Center, Math Learning Center, and STEM CEL tutoring will continue to provide services on campus during regular hours until further notice. Additional academic tutoring is available online through the NetTutor link Canvas.

  • Please contact the MPC Online Education Help Desk for assistance with Canvas or help with online learning.  

Student Services & Support

  • Student support will continue to be available on campus until further notice, however, we encourage you to access services online.

  • A Directory of Student Services and Learning Resources can be used as a quick reference to available student services.

  • Academic counseling is available through the WebReg portal by clicking on the "Ask a Counselor" link.

  • Student Health Services' has an array of online support resources and referrals including crisis lines and basic needs resources

  • Contact the Access Resources Center to discuss individual accommodations for classes. Please call (831) 646-4070 or email arcinfo@mpc.edu.

  • My Financial Aid Student Portal allows you to view your student budget, awards, and forms needed to complete your file.

  • Students who do not have a computer or Internet access may continue to use the MPC Library or contact the Office of the Vice President of Student Services by phone at (831) 646-4155 to explore temporary solutions. In addition, a limited quantity of chromebooks will be available for student checkout in the MPC Library. 

Limitations and Cancellations

  • MPC’s spring break will remain scheduled for March 23-27th. 

  • Effective immediately, and until further notice, MPC is not permitting any spectators other than student athletes and college personnel to attend athletic contests.
