First year American Sign Language (ASL) students are getting a break on the cost of textbooks!

OER_Logo_Open_Educational_Resources-smallFirst Year ASL, a free online textbook, is now being used for beginning American Sign Language classes at MPC! This textbook significantly cuts the cost of taking ASL while still providing students with access to high-quality educational content to improve learning.  The online textbook features videos of vocabulary and grammar so students can see exactly how to sign. This free textbook initiative is part of a nationwide openness movement (Open Educational Resources) to help make education more accessible through the use of openly licensed, text, media, and other digital assets for teaching, learning, and research. MPC is pleased to participate in this growing trend in education.

For students interested in taking American Sign Language to fulfill a language requirement,  MPC is offering numerous classes options this Fall:

  • SIGN 1A (0878): M/W 10:30am-12:45pm
  • SIGN 1A (1169): T/TH 6:00pm-8:15pm
  • SIGN 1B* (0407): T/TH 1:00pm-3:15pm
