Lobos Baseball Players Attract Attention
Three of Monterey Peninsula College’s Baseball team players have been recognized by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA), for their great performances. As Northern California players of the week, CCCBCA recognizes them among other regional players for their outstanding contribution to the sport, as nominated by their MPC Baseball Coach, Dan Phillips.
Gavin Jarvis took the notable honor as player of the week in February, 2018. Donald Kawauchi and Nick Sassarini both were recognized as March, 2018 players of the week, for their contributions. These dedicated players choose MPC for their educational endeavors and proudly play as Lobos on our stellar college baseball team.
According to the CCCBCA’s postings:
In February, player Gavin Jarvis helped lead the Lobos to a 2-0 record. He was 8 for 9 in the two games played, with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 8 RBIs in total. He also came in and pitched 2 innings to close out the game.
In March, pitcher Donald Kawauchi pitched a complete game, 1 hit shutout, on March 8th vs. Canada College. The single hit came in the 5th inning. He struck out the first six batters of the game and finished with 12 K’s on the day, 1 BB, and only 1 hit to help lead the Lobos to a 6-0 win.
Also in March, pitcher Nick Sassarini pitched a complete game shutout while playing Cabrillo College, resulting in a 3-0 win. He went the entire game giving up 4 hits, with 3 strikeouts, and no walks. This is his second consecutive complete game, playing Skyline College, when he only allowed 2 hits and 1 run.
MPC is proud of these players' individual accomplishments and recognizes the entire team’s efforts in being successful as both dedicated students and players in the sport of college baseball.
