The Monterey Peninsula Community College District (the District) is pleased to announce that, on November 5th, representatives for the District and for the Monterey Peninsula College Teachers Association (faculty union) negotiated a tentative agreement for a new contract for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 fiscal years.

This tentative agreement represents a concrete step towards MPC’s future. The negotiated items agreed upon include, but are not limited to:

  • promoting the recruitment and retention of highly qualified full-time and part-time faculty through increased compensation,
  • accelerating the pace at which full-time faculty advance on the salary schedule to higher levels of compensation, and
  • recognizing the extended work year of faculty who support students and the community beyond the traditional academic semester.

It has always been the goal of the District to improve compensation for its faculty, who are critical to MPC’s mission to foster student learning and achievement within its diverse community. The District is, therefore, delighted to have made progress towards this goal through the collective bargaining process with faculty union leadership.

Over the past several years, the College’s transformational leadership, with campus-wide engagement, has laid a firm foundation to move the institution towards a positive future. The College has been working on its reaffirmation of accreditation and stabilizing its enrollments through successful initiatives such as Dual Enrollment with area high schools. While engaged in this important work, the District has negotiated this tentative agreement, which aligns with its goals to improve faculty compensation while maintaining fiscal stability for continuing service to students and the community.
