These self paced courses can normally be completed in four to eight weeks.  Students may enroll anytime during the semester until the last official withdrawal date

A wide range of office technology classes is offered through the Business Skills Center. Course syllabi and requirements are explained when students come in to the lab. Students work at their own pace, with the assistance of an instructor, and choose the days and hours that are convenient for them. Upon the completion of the course objectives, students will be awarded units and may leave the program. One or more courses may be taken during the same semester.

Most course material is offered in half-unit or one-unit modules. Each unit of credit is designed to need 51 hours of lab plus homework. However, some students complete classes in fewer lab hours (the speed is your own). When finished with your daily assignments, most classes require both a theory and applied exam.

It is the student’s responsibility to drop courses by the last official date to withdraw. Failure to do so could result in an “F” or “NP.”

It is not necessary to schedule your hours. You can come in to work on your lessons any time the lab is open.

Do you need to update your job skills? Could you increase your own productivity with better typing skills, or a real mastery of word processing? Have you considered the rewarding job opportunities for database skills? How about learning computerized accounting with QuickBooks?  And do you need flexibility in scheduling to fit classes into your busy calendar?

Whether you have a personal or a professional interest or need, the MPC Business Skills Center is where you can learn all of these skills. It is set up to make your learning experience easy, comfortable, and effective. Come by and see how inviting and simple it can be. Feel free to stroll in during any hour that we are open to ask any questions or just to observe.

You can complete a class in as little as two weeks. You are in charge of your schedule, working at your own pace, and mastering skills relevant to your needs. An instructor or lab assistant is always available to help . You can come in whenever the Center is open to work on your lessons, day or evening. Cost for a unit is the normal school tuition rate and we do not have a material fee. Clearly, these classes are a bargain. Besides, they are fun!

You choose the class and skill level that fits your needs from our courses ranging from keyboarding and beginning computer skills to specific applications such as: Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Other BUSC classes teach software for bookkeeping for a small business (QuickBooks), or machine calculation skills. Classes may be selected to fill a specific need or to apply to a formal Certificate or Degree.

Our Business Technology Lab has state-of-the-art hardware and software, currently using both the Windows 7 and Windows 8 (either available as a student option). MS Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) use Office 2013. Are you looking to upgrade to MS Office 2013, and want to learn the new interface? Sign up now.

Courses are added as new technology and new software versions become important in the office environment, so check out the latest.  Stop by the Business Skills Center in BMC 201, or give us a call at 646-4077 to talk about how you can take the next step for your success.
