Kelly Stack, a hearing child of Deaf adults (CODA), has worked as an interpreter and teacher for many years. Her Ph.D. in linguistics from UCLA focused on the acquisition of ASL. She creates a safe classroom atmosphere for students to learn, using games and interactive exercises.

Sabine Wecker is an RID-certified interpreter with an MA in linguistics from Gallaudet University. Having learned to sign in college, she is an inspirational role model for students. She is sensitive to learning differences and enjoys preparing students for real interactions with real Deaf people in the real world.

At Monterey Peninsula College, we offer classes in American Sign Language using authentic materials, taught by expert signers, with an emphasis on communication to prepare you to take your first steps toward membership in the local Deaf community.

Whether you're interested in satisfying a language requirement, learning a language in a new modality, preparing for work with Deaf people, or you just want to try your hand at something new... the MPC ASL program is for you.

Our students performed ASL poetry in the 2017 Language Capital of the World Cultural Festival:
