The Public Safety Training Center offers a wide variety of courses ranging from a 714 hour Basic Fire Academy to Fire Officer and Chief Officer Level Training. Specialty courses in fire prevention, arson investigation and EMT instructor training are also offered. Courses are certified through CDF-State Fire Training and offer a State certificate.
MPC offers several different options for students interested in a career in the Fire Service.
- Introduction to Basic Firefighter I Academy (FPTC101): This course introduces recruits to the academic and manipulative skills required to succeed in the basic Firefighter I Academy.
- Firefighter 1 Academy (FPTC 105 A/B): This program provides students with the State Fire Marshall's Office educational requirements for certification as a Firefighter 1. MPC offers 2 Academies per calendar year (Spring and Fall.) Each Academy is 17 weeks in length and requires a significant commitment in time and dedication to complete. - Fire Protection Technology Associate in Science (Career Technical Degree): The curriculum includes courses in building construction related to firefighter and life safety, history and philosophy of fire prevention, fire and life safety education, fire investigation, water-based fire suppression systems, special hazard, fire suppression systems, water supply for fire protection and portable fire extinguishers, career opportunities in fire protection and related fields, culture and history of emergency services. This program includes requirements for the FPTC Certificate of Achievement and 12 additional units related to the program major in addition to MPC GE requirements (see details of MPC GE requirements in the MPC Catalog)
