General Education is required of all students pursuing an associate’s degree from Monterey Peninsula College.  General education is also required for most majors at UC and CSU campuses.  A student’s major and/or transfer goal influences which of the three general education patterns below to follow.

For students pursuing a certificate of completion, certificate of training, or certificate of achievement, general education is not required.

For students planning to transfer to a four-year institution in a high-unit major such as biological science or engineering, completion of general education may not be required.   Contact the counseling department and schedule a counseling appointment to discuss further.
