Biography
My name is Bill Easton and I am the Instruction/Reference Librarian here at Monterey Peninsula College and I teach the Library 50-Introduction to Library and Research Skills class. I grew up in Orange County (Southern California) and started out my college career at Saddleback College, which is the community college for South Orange County. After getting my AA degree in Liberal Studies I transferred up to Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) in Arcata, California where I got my first BA degree in Political Science in 1989. After getting my degree I spent most of the 1990's surfing and working up and down the state of California but in the meantime, I got my 2nd BA degree from Humboldt State University in Social Sciences-Teaching Emphasis in 1998.
In 2001 I decided to go back to school and got my Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!!) in Tucson at the end of 2002. I taught up at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon for 2 1/2 years then came down here to Monterey Peninsula College in 2005 and have been here since.
I have an extensive work experience outside of academia. I have worked in the wine industry, commercial fishing in Alaska, driving big-rig trucks in the agriculture sector, and a whole lot of other things. For hobbies I like to surf (though it gets harder as I get older...bad knees and back...don't get old!), stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, reading, playing guitar (extremely mediocre...please do not ask me to join your band) and traveling (to name a few interests).
If you have any questions or run into any problems while taking my classes please let me know. I want you to be successful in my class (and all classes) and my door is always open to students. I may also show up in your other classes for library sessions so you've been warned!
