MPC Celebrates APIDA Heritage Month

MPC Celebrates Asian Pacific Islander Desi American  
Heritage Month, Honoring Generations of Transformative Contributions to the Nation

Monterey, CA (May 1, 2026) – Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) recognizes Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month as a meaningful time to celebrate the significant accomplishments and lasting influence of Asian and Pacific Islander communities on the history of the United States.

As an institution dedicated to equitable access, the MPC Governing Board approved a resolution on April 22, 2026, to honor the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community as an essential thread in the rich and diverse fabric of our nation and the College.

“Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month is a celebration of our culture and our impact on the world,” shared Tuyen Nguyen, Mathematics Professor and Faculty Advisor for the Asian Students Association (ASA) at MPC, which organizes the ASA’s Annual Culture Show. “I am proud to be part of a college community that values who we are.”

MPC remains committed to advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism, and accessibility, actively and proudly advocating for and promoting initiatives that ensure equitable opportunities for all current and future Asian Pacific Islander Desi American members of our proud Lobo community. 

“During Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month, we honor the people and cultural traditions that have profoundly shaped our nation and our community,” said MPC’s Superintendent/President Dr. Marshall T. Fulbright III. “Their experiences and achievements are an essential part of our shared history and a source of inspiration for all.”
