Safety Related Incident January 02, 2026

An active coyote was been spotted on the Monterey campus in the ravine today, 1/2/2026.

Campus Security is aware and monitoring. Please follow the below safety guidelines if you see a coyote on campus:

Safety Tips If You Encounter a Coyote

  1. Keep Your Distance: Do not approach the animal and never attempt to feed it.
  2. Do Not Run: Running can trigger a coyote’s hunting instinct. Instead, back away slowly while keeping your eyes on the animal.
  3. Be “Big and Loud”: If the coyote approaches you, stand tall, wave your arms, and shout in a loud, firm voice (this is known as “hazing”).
  4. Protect Pets: If you have any small pets with you, pick them up immediately and monitor your surroundings.

If you see the active coyote on campus, please inform Campus Security at x4099 or mpcsecurity@mpc.edu to alert.
