New STEM Dean Brings World-Class Experience and Student-First Vision to Monterey Peninsula College
Monterey Peninsula College welcomes Dr. Kenneth Henry as its new Dean of Instruction for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), bringing more than two decades of experience spanning scientific research, biotechnology leadership, and higher education.
Holding a Ph.D. in Genetics from Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. Henry has built an accomplished career that includes groundbreaking biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), leadership in the biotechnology industry, and years of teaching and mentoring students at California community colleges. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to expanding educational access and creating opportunities for students from historically underrepresented communities.
Most recently, Dr. Henry served as a STEM faculty member at Coalinga College, where he developed innovative laboratory experiences, founded campus STEM initiatives, led faculty governance efforts, and built partnerships that connected students to research, internships, and career pathways. His work consistently centered on helping students see themselves as future scientists, engineers, healthcare professionals, and innovators.
"Having devoted my career to STEM and its learning, I'm genuinely excited to be here at MPC, helping connect our students with real opportunities in the STEM sector," said Dr. Henry. "I chose MPC because this community is full of students who are determined to change the world through science, technology, and innovation, and being part of that is exactly where I want to be."
As he begins his new role, Dr. Henry looks forward to strengthening academic programs, expanding industry partnerships, and ensuring MPC students have the knowledge, support, and hands-on experiences needed to thrive in tomorrow's STEM workforce.
