Women’s History Month

Throughout March, Monterey Peninsula College celebrates Women’s History Month with a series of events highlighting leadership, equity, and the contributions of women in our communities. Students, employees, and community members are invited to participate in discussions, panels, and celebrations that honor women’s achievements, explore gender equity, and inspire future leaders.


Gender Bias Training Series – Session #1

Where: Sam Karas Room, Library (Building #16)
When: Friday, March 6 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM

This opening session establishes a shared foundation for understanding gender equity by examining how structural, interpersonal, and implicit gender bias appear in campus policies, practices, and everyday interactions. Participants will build a common language, increase awareness of bias mechanisms, and begin developing skills to interrupt bias in real time.

International Women’s Day Celebration

Where: Lecture Forum (Building #13), Room 103
When: Sunday, March 8 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

In collaboration with the Commission on the Status of Women, this free community event features a panel of professional women sharing their journeys and breaking barriers in male-dominated fields. The theme is “Empowering women and girls to be leaders in public life and achieve gender equality.” The celebration will be followed by a community resource fair in the Caroline Page Garden, refreshments in the Sam Karas Room, and live drummers.

Women’s Success Talk

When: Tuesday, March 10 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Hosted by the First Year Experience Program, this event features inspiring women leaders who are making an impact in their fields. Participants will learn about navigating college, career, and leadership with confidence. All are welcome.

Rooted in Power: Legacy and Leadership of Black Women

Where: Almaden Room, Student Center (Building #23)
When: Friday, March 13 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

This panel discussion celebrates the strength, resilience, and impact of Black women in leadership and community. Join us for an inspiring conversation as panelists share their experiences, honor legacy, and uplift the next generation of leaders.

Beyond Empowerment: Gender, Care & Social Change

Where: Sam Karas Room, Library (Building #16)
When: Monday, March 30 | 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

Sriya Shrestha, Assistant Professor at California State University, Monterey Bay, explores social reproduction as a feminist framework to understand how gender and caregiving shape systems of food, safety, and well-being—and how communities can imagine more equitable alternatives.
